Buying a residential-grade timber building comes with sensible questions about planning, bases, regulations and living in one all year. These are the ones every customer asks first. If yours isn't here, the design team will answer it on your free consultation.
Do I need planning permission for a log cabin?
Many garden log cabins fall within permitted development, depending on height, position and use. Residential cabins and annexes are treated differently, and mobile compliant lodges are covered by the UK Caravan Act. We advise on planning as part of the free design service, and our planning laws guide covers the detail.
What about building regulations?
Building regulations depend on the size and use of the building, and residential use has its own requirements. We design to the relevant standard from the start and our building regulations guide explains where the thresholds sit.
Can I legally live in a log cabin in the UK?
Yes, in the right circumstances. Our mobile compliant lodge cabins are designed to meet the UK Caravan Act, which is the route most residential annexes and park homes use. Our UK Caravan Act guide explains what compliance means and where it applies.
What base does my cabin need?
Every building needs a firm, level base, typically concrete, paving or a timber base system. We confirm base requirements with your quote and our log cabin base guide explains the options. If you need the base prepared, tell us at the design stage and we will plan for it.
Can a log cabin really be used all year round?
Yes, with the right specification. Log thicknesses from 40mm to 95mm, double glazing throughout and our Winter Pack insulation upgrades bring thermal performance to a residential level, which is why our buildings are lived and worked in through a British winter.
How long does delivery and installation take?
Your written quote arrives within 48 hours, and lead times are confirmed with it. Installation itself is fast: our Sheffield golf simulator cabin was designed, delivered and built in five days. We deliver and install nationwide with our own teams.
What roofing options are available?
